The culinary arts facility at Rowland High School celebrated their grand opening on November 2, 2011.  The ROP Restaurant Occupations class is a critical component of Rowland High School's Food Service & Hospitality industry sector.  The "Golden JAR" is a student managed, on-campus restaurant-modernization project.  This new classroom facility provides students a real-world learning experience.  ROP students created culinary foods that included Chipotle sliders, Hawaiian beef sliders, buffalo chicken sliders, chip cookies, and pineapple upside down cake.

LPVROP Student Summit
October 2011

Nineteen ROP students from Bassett HS, La Puente HS, Los Altos HS, Nogales HS, Rowland HS, Santana HS, Wilson HS, and Workman HS, were brought together on October 24, 2011 to attend an ROP Student Summit.  Students were randomly chosen representing the ROP demographic profile. The students were transported to AQMD in Diamond Bar and enjoyed a continental breakfast and pizza luncheon.  At the Summit students were separated into groups where they discussed and answered questions that will help enhance the ROP classes.  Most interestingly, students agreed that ROP classes should be 75% hands-on with 25% lecture.  This was a great opportunity to expose students to networking and collaboration.  In addition, students were able to learn leadership skills by presenting their ideas to the group.

Health Occupation Students of America

Fall 2010

ROP students from the local high schools are successfully applying what they learn in the classroom to the "real-world".   The ROP students from Nogales' Photography class were contracted to create the Nogales football program.  Also, an ROP student from Nogales' Medical Core class was hired after her internship at the work-site.

A team of students from Los Altos High School ROP Engineering class have created real-world products that solve real world problems by creating science and technology - based products that can be introduced to the market place.  To review their projects, visit http://conradawards.org/teams/finalist_teams

At Rowland high school, the students from the ROP Video Production class create a weekly video bulletin called the "Raider Report".  They have also produced a diversity video for Rowland, "Accept the Differences"

What students have to say…

"My 2010 Cal-HOSA State Leadership Conference at Ontario was thrilling.  It was an experience I will never forget and always be thankful for. It inspired me to keep pursuing my dream and anything is possible if you have a deep strong passion for it.  Being on that stage holding our bronze medal was an unexplainable feeling.  We accomplished our goal and left satisfied."  Student Grade 11

"The video production class at Los Altos helped me understand movies and to get into it,"  Student - Senior, who hopes to become a film producer.

"…ROP has helped me in numerous ways with not only my career goals but also with my lifestyle.  Before I took ROP I was not confident in with myself at all.  It never crossed my mind that I would be able to perform in front of people and not be afraid of them.  I have become confident with myself and also am able to show more confidence when I am performing."  Student 2009

"…Because of this ROP class I have been offered a full-time job at ACCO Engineered Systems as a service technician and this company supports their employees that continue their education by paying for part of their schooling.  This will encourage me to continue going to college so that I can become a mechanical engineer in HVAC.  All because of this ROP class….I will soon be following my career goals by becoming an HVAC Technician and mechanical engineer." Student 2009
