Bassett High School, July 12-27 Visit your Career Center for more information - Law Enforcement Explorer Academy Sat/Sun 7:30 am-6 pm
This program is designed for students 14-20 years old who are considering a career in law enforcement. The course includes eight hours of ride-alongs to receive Explorer Certification. Emphasis is placed on ethics, physical training, and patrol tactics.

Students will prepare for entry-level employment as an Emergency Medical Technician (after passing the national registry certification examination). Students will develop skills in providing immediate care and assist emergency medical services (EMS) providers. Students will learn EMS, CPR, basic life support, patient assessment, legal/ethical issues, triage and emergency responsibilities. CPR on selected Saturdays. - Physical Therapy Aide M-Th 1:30 pm–5 pm
Students will acquire rehabilitation and specific restorative skills such as range of motion, positioning techniques, and use of adaptive and assistive equipment. Students must complete make-up hours and on-site hours within three months of course completion. An overview of EMS, CPR, first aid, patient assessment, legal and ethnical issues, triage and emergency responsibilities will be covered in this course. CPR on selected Saturdays. Classroom – 100 hours, On-site – 77 hours. A C.N.A. Certificate is needed PRIOR to taking this class for a Restorative Nursing Aide Certification. - Microsoft Office Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS) Exam Preparation M-Th 8:30 am-1:30 pm
Learn Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 in our new computer lab. Instructor is a certified Master Microsoft User Specialist (MOUS). The MS Office 2007 course teaches all the criteria for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and/or Outlook. This class focuses on exam preparation. Class ends July 31. - Retail Sales T, W 1 pm-3:45 pm
Students will learn the basics of retail sales, cash control, inventory, advertising, and display of general merchandise. - Nursing Assistant M-F 7 am-3 pm
Students will learn entry-level theory and practical skills to care for residents of a long-term facility or for patients in their homes. Upon completion, students are eligible to take the Department of Health Services certification examination. All students must pre-register prior to orientation. Students are required to pass a reading test at orientation in order to be accepted into the NA program. Fingerprint clearance and physical exam required prior to clinical assignment. - Nursing Assistant, Acute Saturdays 8 am to 4:30 pm at Whittier Hospital
Students will develop skills necessary to treat injuries, perform pre/post operative care, surgical care procedures, labor & delivery, care of newborns. Class meets at Whittier Hospital on Saturdays.

All Courses run Monday through Thursday Learn electronic layout, design, and illustration as used in the preparation of electronic and print-ready artwork. PC/Windows computer systems, scanners, printers, and commercial software are used. Create a student portfolio that demonstrates both creative and technical art skills. Students will learn flower arranging, display, sales, and customer relations skills associated with wholesale and retail operations. Students may participate in extra hours for decorating school and/or staff related in-service meetings and conferences. This course provides students an overview of criminal justice and related careers. Students will learn the basics of laws, enforcement agencies, enforcement powers, communication, community relations, first aid and CPR in a classroom environment. Students will begin preparation for careers in Forensic Science. Students will learn crime scene investigation, photographing of the crime scene, collection and preservation of evidence. Fingerprint techniques including comparison, rolling of prints, pattern identification and the Henry Classification system are also included in this class. This course satisfies the introduction course prerequisite for the Forensic Science Academy. - Computer Applications (MCAS-EP)
Students will learn and improve keyboarding skills while learning basic Windows operations and internet search techniques. Beginner and Intermediate students will learn Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and FrontPage.

Students will learn industry measurement, print reading, production techniques, operation of machine tools, welding, numerical control and quality control. Students may participate in Build Your Dream Car and/or Alternative Energy Vehicles practice and competition field trips. Students will prepare for entry-level positions in dance. Students learn the elements of dance and also the self-discipline and commitment required to dance professionally. Health and fitness training and conditioning, rehearsal, performance preparation, and career standards are integrated throughout the course. Sports Health Care is a 525-hour course that prepares the student as a Physical Therapy Aide, Athletic Trainer Assistant, or Exercise Assistant. During the practical application of their content skills, students will support the athletic programs being conducted at their school. After successful completion of this course, students will have the prerequisite skills to pursue advanced studies at the neighboring colleges and universities. The course may be taught by a NATA certified athletic trainer.
Nogales High School, June 16-July 18 See Ms. Machado in the Career Center Courses run Monday through Friday Students will learn front office record keeping including patient communications, history, insurance, billing, law/ethics, filing and telephone procedures. Back office techniques include examination, office surgery, vital signs, injections and related skills will also be covered in this course. One Saturday class is required (TBD) for CPR. Students participating in HOSA may participate in local, state and national competition field trips. - Advanced Computer Applications
Students will build on the techniques learned in Computer Applications for Business. Learn graphics, telecommunications, desktop publishing, and presentation software concepts. Students will learn to create web pages that contain information in the form of text and graphics, starting with information or data to be published on the WWW. Student will learn how to create and edit hypertext, and conventions and etiquette of the Web. Students will learn to produce attractive Web pages that are effective within the limitations of the delivery medium, and develop knowledge of graphics applications and techniques.
Rowland High School, June 16—July 18 See Ms. Machado in the ROP Center Courses run Monday through Friday Sports Health Care is a 525-hour course that prepares the student as a Physical Therapy Aide, Athletic Trainer Assistant, or Exercise Assistant. During the practical application of their content skills, students will support the athletic programs being conducted at their school. After successful completion of this course, students will have the prerequisite skills to pursue advanced studies at the neighboring colleges and universities. The course may be taught by a NATA certified athletic trainer. Students will learn identification of kitchen tools and equipment, portion control, measurement, menu planning, cost calculation, sanitation, safety, personal hygiene, interpersonal skills, and job search techniques. Students may participate in Home Economics Related Occupations (HERO) club, and local, state, and National competition field trips.

Student will learn how to create and edit hypertext, and conventions and etiquette of the Web. Students will learn to produce attractive Web pages that are effective within the limitations of the delivery medium, and develop knowledge of graphics applications and techniques. Students will learn components of personal computers, skills to analyze and repair computer malfunctions and basic troubleshooting techniques for PCs based on A+ Certification guidelines.
