 College Credit
Articulation is the process of evaluating courses to determine whether coursework completed in a high school ROP class will meet the requirements at a community college for the purpose of advanced placement or credit-by-exam units. Articulation is a planned process that links La Puente Valley ROP with local community colleges. It minimizes needless course duplication and allows for students to receive college credit for college level work completed in the ROP class. A guiding principle of articulation is that no student should be required to repeat the same course content for which credit was received. The process enables students to achieve their educational goals or obtain certification in a shorter period of time. (Articulation Handbook, CA Pathways) La Puente Valley ROP has entered into articulation agreements with Mt. SAC Community College and Rio Hondo Community College.

What are the benefits of articulation
• Articulation helps to foster the development of strong, positive relationships between high school, ROCP and community college CTE faculty through opportunities to meet and develop articulation agreements.
• ROP teachers often become strong supporters of the college program and refer a greater number of students to the college.
• CTE programs in California's schools and ROCPs are strengthened when students are successful and when they stay in school and complete programs.
• New students will be attracted to CTE programs when they see that their peers used articulation agreements and moved on to college studies. Students are more motivated when they see where secondary courses can take them.

How classes are articulated and how do students obtain credit?

Some ROP classes are articulated with Mt. SAC and Rio Hondo through Articulation Agreements. The agreement is a formal, written, and published document that describes which coursework is accepted from the ROP as comparable to or in lieu of coursework at Mt. SAC or Rio Hondo.
The requirements to receive the advanced placement and/or credits vary by the individual course and instructor. In addition, there are different types of articulation agreements and the agreements are required to be renewed annually. The current articulation process is as follows…
Mt SAC Articulation with La Puente Valley ROP
Articulation Agreements with Mt. SAC are established annually during the fall and are valid for the current school year.
Articulation with secondary programs is a time sensitive process. Secondary students must complete the required paperwork and pass required exams at the completion of their secondary course. If a course sequence is required at the secondary level, the student must request the units at the completion of the course sequence. The required paperwork must be submitted by the instructor of record on the Articulation Agreement within two months of course or sequence completion. Students may not seek college units retroactively.
Required paperwork includes:
- 2+2 Articulation Equivalency Form
- High School Transcript
- ROP Certificate of Completion
- Enrollment at the College
Forms are available from participating ROP high school instructors. ROP instructors submit all required paperwork to the Tech Prep office at Mt. San Antonio College. Articulation forms will be accepted
from authorized secondary instructors only. College credit issued by ROP will be accepted if the issuing programs is accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). For more information on articulations please contact the Tech Prep/Articulation Office, Bldg. 11A, at (909) 594-5611, ext. 5252.

Rio Hondo Articulation with La Puente Valley ROP
Articulation agreements are only approved when faculty to faculty review occurs. Together, faculty from RHC and the ROP instructors examine course curriculum of their respective disciplines and determine that select courses are equivalent in content. A formal agreement is written that identifies the equivalency among these courses. These agreements are reviewed on a yearly basis.
